Jean-Willy Kunz is a renowned classical music artist who has made a name for himself as a virtuoso organist, pianist, and conductor. Born in Quebec City, Canada, on May 26, 1984, Kunz showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of five. He later discovered the organ and fell in love with its rich and complex sound, which would become his primary instrument. Kunz's musical education began at the Conservatoire de musique de Québec, where he studied piano and organ. He later continued his studies at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal, where he earned a degree in organ performance. He also studied conducting at the Hochschule für Musik in Leipzig, Germany, and at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal. Kunz's talent as an organist was quickly recognized, and he began performing in concerts and competitions at a young age. In 2003, he won first prize at the Canadian International Organ Competition, which launched his career as a professional musician. He has since performed in some of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including the Royal Albert Hall in London, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles. Kunz's repertoire is vast and varied, ranging from classical to contemporary music. He is particularly known for his interpretations of the works of Johann Sebastian Bach, whose music he has studied extensively. He has also premiered works by contemporary composers, including John Burge, Denis Gougeon, and Maxime McKinley. In addition to his work as a soloist, Kunz is also an accomplished conductor. He has conducted orchestras in Canada, the United States, and Europe, including the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, and the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra. He is currently the artistic director and principal conductor of the Orchestre symphonique de l'Estuaire, based in Rimouski, Quebec. Kunz's talent and dedication to his craft have earned him numerous awards and accolades throughout his career. In 2008, he was awarded the Prix d'Europe, one of the most prestigious awards for young musicians in Canada. He has also been awarded the Prix Opus for Performer of the Year on several occasions, as well as the Prix Opus for Concert of the Year for his performance of Bach's Goldberg Variations.
