Genre:ChamberKeyboardRobert Shannon is a renowned classical pianist and professor of music at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music. Born in 1950 in New York City, Shannon began playing the piano at the age of five and quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. He went on to study at the Juilliard School, where he earned both his bachelor's and master's degrees in piano performance. Throughout his career, Shannon has performed extensively as a soloist and chamber musician, both in the United States and abroad. He has appeared with numerous orchestras, including the Cleveland Orchestra, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the New York Philharmonic. He has also collaborated with many distinguished musicians, such as violinist Jaime Laredo and cellist Sharon Robinson. One of Shannon's most notable performances was his debut with the Cleveland Orchestra in 1985, where he played Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 4. The performance was widely praised, with critics noting Shannon's "impeccable technique" and "sensitive interpretation" of the piece. Shannon has also performed at many prestigious venues, such as Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and the Royal Festival Hall in London. In addition to his performing career, Shannon is also a highly respected educator. He has been a member of the faculty at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music since 1989, where he currently serves as the chair of the piano department. He has also taught at the Juilliard School, the Eastman School of Music, and the Cleveland Institute of Music. Shannon's teaching philosophy emphasizes the importance of developing a strong technical foundation, as well as a deep understanding of the music being played. He encourages his students to approach each piece with a sense of curiosity and exploration, and to strive for a balance between technical precision and emotional expression. Shannon has received numerous awards and honors throughout his career. In 1981, he was a winner of the Young Concert Artists International Auditions, which helped launch his performing career. He has also been a recipient of the Avery Fisher Career Grant, the National Endowment for the Arts Solo Recitalist Fellowship, and the Cleveland Arts Prize. Despite his many accomplishments, Shannon remains humble and dedicated to his craft. He continues to perform and teach with passion and enthusiasm, inspiring generations of musicians to come.More....
