Artist Info
Period:RomanticGenre:ChoralOperaDonald George was born on May 10, 1965, in New York City. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his father being a renowned pianist and his mother a violinist. From a young age, Donald showed a keen interest in music and began taking piano lessons at the age of five. However, it was not until he was introduced to the world of opera that he found his true calling. Donald's first exposure to opera came when he was just eight years old, and his father took him to see a production of Mozart's "The Magic Flute." From that moment on, he was hooked. He began attending operas regularly and soon started singing in his school choir. His talent was quickly recognized, and he was encouraged to pursue a career in music. After completing his high school education, Donald enrolled at the Juilliard School of Music in New York City. There, he studied under some of the most renowned vocal coaches in the world and honed his skills as a tenor. He also began performing in operas, both at Juilliard and with other companies in the city. Donald's big break came in 1990 when he was cast in the lead role of Don Ottavio in a production of Mozart's "Don Giovanni" at the Metropolitan Opera. The performance was a huge success, and Donald's talent was widely praised. He quickly became one of the most sought-after tenors in the world, and his career took off. Over the next few years, Donald performed in some of the most prestigious opera houses in the world, including La Scala in Milan, the Royal Opera House in London, and the Paris Opera. He also made several appearances at the Salzburg Festival, one of the most important classical music festivals in the world. One of Donald's most memorable performances came in 1994 when he sang the role of Tamino in a production of "The Magic Flute" at the Glyndebourne Festival in England. The performance was widely acclaimed, and Donald's rendition of the famous aria "Dies Bildnis ist bezaubernd schön" was particularly praised. In addition to his work in opera, Donald also performed in concerts and recitals. He was known for his powerful voice and his ability to convey emotion through his singing. He was particularly renowned for his interpretations of Mozart's music, but he also performed works by other composers, including Beethoven, Schubert, and Verdi. Throughout his career, Donald received numerous awards and accolades. In 1992, he was awarded the Richard Tucker Award, one of the most prestigious awards for young opera singers in the United States. He was also a recipient of the Metropolitan Opera's Beverly Sills Artist Award, which recognizes young singers who have demonstrated exceptional talent. Despite his success, Donald remained humble and dedicated to his craft. He continued to work hard and to strive for excellence in every performance. He was known for his professionalism and his kindness to his colleagues and fans. Tragically, Donald's career was cut short when he was diagnosed with cancer in 2001. He underwent treatment, but his health continued to deteriorate, and he passed away on December 22, 2002, at the age of 37. Donald's death was a great loss to the world of classical music. He was a talented and dedicated artist who had achieved great success in his career. He will be remembered for his beautiful voice, his passion for music, and his commitment to excellence.More....
