Artist Info
Stéphane Tétreault is a Canadian cellist who has gained international recognition for his virtuosic performances and musical sensitivity. Born on April 7, 1993, in Montreal, Quebec, Tétreault began playing the cello at the age of four. He showed an early aptitude for the instrument and began studying with Yuli Turovsky, the founder and conductor of the I Musici de Montréal chamber orchestra, at the age of seven. Tétreault's talent was evident from a young age, and he quickly began to make a name for himself in the classical music world. In 2007, at the age of 14, he won first prize at the Canadian Music Competition, and the following year he was awarded the prestigious Prix d'Europe, which allowed him to study with renowned cellist Janos Starker at Indiana University. Since then, Tétreault has gone on to perform with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestre National de France, and the London Philharmonic Orchestra. He has also collaborated with many of the world's top conductors, including Kent Nagano, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, and Zubin Mehta. One of Tétreault's most notable performances came in 2012, when he was invited to perform at the 100th anniversary of the Titanic's sinking. He played a solo cello piece, "Nearer My God to Thee," which was said to have been played by the ship's musicians as it sank. The performance was broadcast around the world and helped to cement Tétreault's reputation as a rising star in the classical music world. In addition to his performances as a soloist, Tétreault is also an active chamber musician. He has performed with many of the world's leading chamber ensembles, including the Emerson String Quartet, the Borromeo String Quartet, and the Zukerman ChamberPlayers. Tétreault's talent has been recognized with numerous awards and honors. In 2011, he was awarded the Fernand-Lindsay Career Award, which is given annually to a young Canadian musician who shows exceptional promise. He has also been awarded the Virginia Parker Prize, the Sylva Gelber Foundation Award, and the Prix Goyer, among others. Despite his success, Tétreault remains humble and dedicated to his craft. He continues to study with renowned cellist and pedagogue Gary Hoffman and is constantly seeking to improve his technique and musicality. He is also committed to promoting classical music to a wider audience and has worked with organizations such as Jeunesses Musicales Canada and the Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal to bring classical music to young people. In addition to his performing career, Tétreault is also an advocate for environmental sustainability. He has worked with organizations such as the David Suzuki Foundation and the Nature Conservancy of Canada to raise awareness about environmental issues and promote sustainable living. Overall, Stéphane Tétreault is a talented and dedicated musician who has already achieved a great deal in his young career. With his virtuosic playing and musical sensitivity, he is sure to continue to make a significant impact on the classical music world for many years to come.More....
