Tatjana Vassiljeva is a renowned classical music artist who has made a name for herself as a cellist. Born on 25th October 1974 in Tallinn, Estonia, Tatjana grew up in a family of musicians. Her father was a cellist, and her mother was a pianist. Tatjana started playing the cello at the age of six and showed exceptional talent from an early age. Tatjana's musical education began at the Tallinn Music High School, where she studied under the guidance of Laine Leichter. She then went on to study at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre, where she was mentored by Professor Laine Mets. Tatjana's talent was recognized early on, and she was awarded several prizes at national and international competitions. In 1993, Tatjana won the first prize at the International Cello Competition in Markneukirchen, Germany. This was a significant achievement for the young cellist, and it opened up many doors for her. She was invited to perform at various concerts and festivals across Europe, and her reputation as a talented cellist began to grow. Tatjana's career took off in the late 1990s when she won the first prize at the International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow. This was a major achievement for Tatjana, as the Tchaikovsky Competition is one of the most prestigious music competitions in the world. Her performance of Tchaikovsky's Rococo Variations was highly praised by the judges, and she was awarded the top prize. Following her success at the Tchaikovsky Competition, Tatjana was invited to perform with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the New York Philharmonic. She has also performed at major music festivals, such as the Salzburg Festival, the Edinburgh International Festival, and the BBC Proms. Tatjana has collaborated with many renowned conductors, including Sir Simon Rattle, Valery Gergiev, and Mariss Jansons. She has also worked with some of the world's leading soloists, such as Maxim Vengerov, Gidon Kremer, and Martha Argerich. In addition to her performances as a soloist, Tatjana is also a dedicated chamber musician. She has performed with many leading chamber ensembles, including the Artemis Quartet, the Belcea Quartet, and the Jerusalem Quartet. Tatjana is also a member of the Trio Parnassus, which she founded in 1998 with her husband, pianist Wolfgang Schroeder, and violinist Yamei Yu. Tatjana's discography is extensive, and she has recorded for many major record labels, including Deutsche Grammophon, EMI, and Sony Classical. Her recordings have received critical acclaim, and she has won several awards for her work, including the Echo Klassik Award and the Diapason d'Or. Tatjana is also a dedicated teacher, and she has taught at several music schools and conservatories, including the Hanns Eisler School of Music in Berlin and the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki. She is currently a professor of cello at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. In recognition of her contributions to the world of classical music, Tatjana has been awarded several honors and awards. In 2014, she was awarded the Order of the White Star by the President of Estonia for her services to Estonian culture.
