Delitiae Musicae is a classical music ensemble that specializes in performing music from the Renaissance and Baroque periods. The ensemble was founded in 1992 by Marco Longhini, an Italian conductor and harpsichordist. Longhini had previously worked with several other early music ensembles, including La Venexiana and Concerto Italiano, before deciding to form his own group. The name Delitiae Musicae comes from a Latin phrase that means "musical delights." This name reflects the ensemble's mission to bring joy and beauty to audiences through their performances of early music. From the beginning, Longhini assembled a group of talented musicians who shared his passion for this repertoire. The core members of Delitiae Musicae include Marco Longhini on harpsichord, Silvia Frigato and Raffaele Giordani on vocals, and several instrumentalists who play a variety of period instruments, including violins, violas, cellos, and lutes. The ensemble also frequently collaborates with guest artists, including other singers and instrumentalists. Delitiae Musicae has performed extensively throughout Europe and North America, appearing at major festivals and concert series in cities such as London, Paris, Amsterdam, New York, and Boston. The ensemble has also released several critically acclaimed recordings on the Glossa label, including albums of music by Monteverdi, Vivaldi, and Handel. One of the highlights of Delitiae Musicae's career was their performance at the 2008 Boston Early Music Festival. This festival is one of the largest and most prestigious early music events in the world, and Delitiae Musicae was invited to perform a program of music by Claudio Monteverdi. The ensemble's performance was widely praised by critics and audiences alike, and helped to establish their reputation as one of the leading early music ensembles of their generation. In addition to their performances, Delitiae Musicae has also received numerous awards and accolades for their recordings. Their album of Monteverdi's Vespers of 1610 was named one of the best classical recordings of 2010 by The New York Times, and their recording of Handel's Dixit Dominus was awarded the prestigious Diapason d'Or in 2013. Despite their success, Delitiae Musicae remains committed to their mission of bringing early music to a wider audience. They frequently perform in churches and other non-traditional venues, and are known for their engaging and accessible approach to this repertoire. Through their performances and recordings, Delitiae Musicae continues to delight audiences with the beauty and richness of early music.
