Esbjerg Ensemble is a Danish classical music group that was founded in 1967. The ensemble has become one of the most respected and renowned chamber music groups in Denmark and has gained international recognition for their performances. The ensemble was founded by a group of young musicians who were studying at the Esbjerg Music School. The original members of the group were violinists Jørgen Hald Nielsen and Poul Høxbro, violist Jørgen Jensen, cellist Erling Bløndal Bengtsson, and pianist Anne Øland. The group quickly gained a reputation for their exceptional musicianship and their ability to perform a wide range of classical music styles. Over the years, the ensemble has undergone several changes in membership, but their commitment to excellence has remained constant. Today, the ensemble is made up of violinists Christina Åstrand and Kirstine Schneider, violist Asbjørn Nørgaard, cellist Andreas Brantelid, and pianist Marianna Shirinyan. They have performed at the Royal Albert Hall in London, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, and the Berlin Philharmonic. They have also been featured at the Salzburg Festival, the Edinburgh Festival, and the Tanglewood Music Festival. One of the highlights of the ensemble's career was their performance at the 1998 BBC Proms. The ensemble performed a program of works by Danish composers, including Carl Nielsen and Per Nørgård. The performance was broadcast live on BBC Radio 3 and was met with critical acclaim. Esbjerg Ensemble has also been recognized for their recordings. They have released numerous albums, including recordings of works by Mozart, Beethoven, and Brahms. Their recording of Per Nørgård's String Quartets was awarded the Danish Music Award for Best Classical Album in 2002. In addition to their performances and recordings, Esbjerg Ensemble has also been committed to promoting classical music education. They have worked with young musicians through their Esbjerg International Chamber Music Festival and their Esbjerg Music School.
