tenThing is a Norwegian all-female brass ensemble that was founded in 2007 by trumpeter Tine Thing Helseth. The group consists of ten members who play a variety of brass instruments, including trumpets, horns, trombones, and tubas. The ensemble's mission is to promote the versatility and beauty of brass music, and to inspire young musicians to pursue careers in classical music. Tine Thing Helseth, who serves as the group's artistic director, is one of Norway's most prominent classical musicians. She began playing the trumpet at the age of seven and went on to study at the Barratt Due Institute of Music in Oslo and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. She has performed with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra. The other members of tenThing are also accomplished musicians who have studied at some of the world's top music schools. They include: - Elske te Lindert (trumpet) - Nora B. Einarsdottir (trumpet) - Fanny Gunnarsson (horn) - Lena Wik (horn) - Katrine Pedersen (trombone) - Hildegunn Øiseth (trumpet/flugelhorn) - Christine Røde (trombone) - Astrid M. Skauge (tuba) Since its founding, tenThing has performed at some of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including Carnegie Hall in New York, the Royal Albert Hall in London, and the Berlin Philharmonic. The ensemble has also collaborated with a number of renowned musicians, including pianist Leif Ove Andsnes and violinist Vilde Frang. One of tenThing's most notable performances was at the 2011 Nobel Peace Prize Concert in Oslo, where they performed alongside artists such as Sting, Janelle Monáe, and Esperanza Spalding. The ensemble has also released several albums, including "10" (2010), "10 Christmas for tenThing" (2012), and "tenThing plays Bach" (2016). In addition to their performances, tenThing is committed to music education and outreach. The ensemble regularly conducts workshops and masterclasses for young musicians, and has established a scholarship program to support aspiring brass players. Over the years, tenThing has received numerous awards and accolades for their contributions to classical music. In 2013, the ensemble was awarded the prestigious Spellemannprisen (Norwegian Grammy) for their album "10 Christmas for tenThing." They have also been named "Ensemble of the Year" by the Norwegian Society of Composers and "Classical Artist of the Year" by the Norwegian Music Industry Awards.
