Teiko Maehashi was born on January 15, 1985, in Tokyo, Japan. She was born into a family of musicians, with her mother being a pianist and her father being a violinist. From a young age, Teiko was exposed to classical music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Teiko's talent for music was evident from a young age, and she quickly became a prodigy. She began performing in public at the age of six and won her first competition at the age of eight. Her parents recognized her talent and encouraged her to pursue a career in music. Teiko attended the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music, where she studied under renowned pianist Hiroshi Tamura. She graduated with honors in 2007 and went on to study at the Juilliard School in New York City, where she earned a Master of Music degree in 2009. In 2003, she won first prize at the Japan Classical Music Competition, and in 2005, she won the Grand Prix at the International Piano Competition in Paris. She has also won awards at the Hamamatsu International Piano Competition and the International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw. Teiko has performed in some of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including Carnegie Hall in New York City, the Royal Albert Hall in London, and the Salle Pleyel in Paris. She has also performed with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Berlin Philharmonic. One of Teiko's most memorable performances was her debut at Carnegie Hall in 2010. She performed a program of works by Chopin, Liszt, and Beethoven to a sold-out audience. The New York Times praised her performance, saying, "Ms. Maehashi's playing was technically flawless and emotionally powerful, leaving the audience spellbound." Teiko is known for her interpretations of the works of Chopin and Liszt, and she has recorded several albums of their music. Her recordings have received critical acclaim, and she has been praised for her virtuosity and sensitivity. In addition to her performing career, Teiko is also a dedicated teacher.
