Duo d'Accord is a classical music ensemble consisting of two pianists, Andreas Grau and Götz Schumacher. The duo was founded in 1991 and has since become one of the most renowned piano duos in the world. Andreas Grau was born in Berlin in 1965 and began playing the piano at the age of six. He studied at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin and later at the Juilliard School in New York. Götz Schumacher was born in Frankfurt in 1963 and also started playing the piano at a young age. He studied at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Frankfurt and later at the Juilliard School in New York. The two pianists met in New York in the late 1980s and began playing together as a duo. They quickly gained recognition for their exceptional musicality and technical skill, and in 1991 they officially formed Duo d'Accord. Duo d'Accord has performed extensively throughout Europe, Asia, and North America, and has collaborated with many of the world's leading orchestras and conductors. Some of their most notable performances include appearances at the Salzburg Festival, the Berlin Philharmonic, the Royal Festival Hall in London, and the Carnegie Hall in New York. The duo has also won numerous awards and accolades for their performances and recordings. In 1992, they won the ARD International Music Competition in Munich, which helped to launch their international career. They have also been awarded the Echo Klassik Award, the Diapason d'Or, and the Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik, among others. Duo d'Accord is known for their dynamic and expressive performances, which showcase their deep musical understanding and technical virtuosity. They have a particular affinity for the music of the 20th and 21st centuries, and have premiered many new works by contemporary composers. One of their most notable recordings is their complete cycle of the piano music of György Ligeti, which was released on the Neos label in 2008. The recording received widespread critical acclaim and was hailed as a landmark achievement in the interpretation of Ligeti's music. In addition to their performing and recording activities, Grau and Schumacher are also committed to music education. They have taught masterclasses at many of the world's leading music schools and conservatories, and have served as jury members for numerous international piano competitions.
