Role:EnsembleThe Szymanowski Quartet is a renowned classical music ensemble that has been captivating audiences around the world for over two decades. The quartet was founded in 1995 in Warsaw, Poland, by four young musicians who shared a passion for chamber music and a desire to explore the works of Polish composers. The founding members of the Szymanowski Quartet were violinists Grzegorz Kotow and Agata Szymczewska, violist Vladimir Mykytka, and cellist Marcin Sieniawski. All four musicians had already established themselves as accomplished soloists and chamber musicians before coming together to form the quartet. The quartet takes its name from the Polish composer Karol Szymanowski, whose music has been a cornerstone of the ensemble's repertoire since its inception. The quartet has also championed the works of other Polish composers, as well as the standard repertoire of classical chamber music. The Szymanowski Quartet quickly gained recognition for its exceptional musicianship and dynamic performances. In 1996, the quartet won first prize at the prestigious Bordeaux International String Quartet Competition, which launched their international career. Since then, the quartet has performed in major concert halls and festivals around the world, including Carnegie Hall, the Berlin Philharmonic, the Salzburg Festival, and the BBC Proms. The quartet has also collaborated with many renowned musicians, including pianists Krystian Zimerman and Piotr Anderszewski, cellist Steven Isserlis, and clarinetist Michael Collins. These collaborations have resulted in critically acclaimed recordings and performances that showcase the quartet's versatility and musical sensitivity. One of the highlights of the Szymanowski Quartet's career was their 2006 performance of the complete string quartets of Karol Szymanowski at the Wigmore Hall in London. This ambitious project was a testament to the quartet's commitment to promoting the music of their namesake composer and was met with critical acclaim. The quartet has also been recognized for their recordings, which have received numerous awards and accolades. Their recording of the complete string quartets of Karol Szymanowski won the prestigious Diapason d'Or award in 2005, and their recording of the string quartets of Grazyna Bacewicz was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2018. Throughout their career, the Szymanowski Quartet has remained committed to promoting the music of Polish composers and expanding the repertoire of classical chamber music. Their dedication to their craft and their exceptional musicianship have made them one of the most respected and sought-after string quartets in the world.More....
