He was the son of a music teacher and began playing the violin at the age of four. Taschner's talent was quickly recognized, and he was accepted into the Breslau Conservatory at the age of six. Taschner's early years were marked by his exceptional talent and dedication to music. He studied under some of the most prominent violinists of his time, including Carl Flesch and Max Rostal. At the age of 16, he made his debut as a soloist with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, performing the Beethoven Violin Concerto. In 1941, Taschner was drafted into the German army and served on the Eastern Front during World War II. He was captured by the Soviet army in 1945 and spent several years as a prisoner of war. During his captivity, he continued to practice the violin and even gave concerts for his fellow prisoners. After his release, Taschner resumed his career as a violinist and quickly established himself as one of the leading musicians of his generation. He performed with many of the world's top orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Vienna Philharmonic, and the London Symphony Orchestra. He also collaborated with some of the most celebrated conductors of the time, such as Wilhelm Furtwängler, Herbert von Karajan, and Karl Böhm. Taschner was known for his technical brilliance and his ability to convey deep emotion through his playing. He was particularly admired for his interpretations of the works of Bach, Mozart, and Beethoven. He was also a champion of contemporary music and premiered works by composers such as Paul Hindemith and Hans Werner Henze. In addition to his career as a soloist, Taschner was also a respected conductor. He served as the principal conductor of the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra from 1961 to 1963 and the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra from 1963 to 1966. He also conducted many other orchestras throughout Europe and the United States. Taschner's career was marked by many highlights and accolades. In 1954, he won the prestigious International Violin Competition in Geneva, Switzerland. He was also awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany in 1972 and the Grand Cross of Merit with Star and Sash in 1987. Despite his success, Taschner was known for his modesty and his dedication to his craft. He continued to perform and teach until his death on January 22, 1976, in Munich, Germany. His legacy lives on through his recordings and the many musicians he inspired and taught throughout his career.More....
