Cristina Angelakova is a Bulgarian classical pianist who has gained international recognition for her virtuosic performances and musical interpretations. Born on May 22, 1997, in Sofia, Bulgaria, Angelakova showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Her parents, both musicians, recognized her talent and encouraged her to pursue a career in music. Angelakova's musical education began at the National School of Music "Lyubomir Pipkov" in Sofia, where she studied with renowned Bulgarian pianist and pedagogue Prof. Stella Dimitrova. She quickly distinguished herself as a prodigious talent, winning numerous national and international competitions, including the "Young Virtuosos" competition in Sofia, the "Citta di Barletta" competition in Italy, and the "Virtuosi per musica di pianoforte" competition in the Czech Republic. In 2012, Angelakova was awarded a scholarship to study at the prestigious Mozarteum University in Salzburg, Austria, where she studied with renowned pianist and pedagogue Prof. Pavel Gililov. During her time at the Mozarteum, Angelakova continued to win awards and accolades, including first prize at the "Citta di Barletta" competition for the second time, and the "Grand Prix" at the "Young Virtuosos" competition in Sofia. Angelakova's international career began to take off in 2015, when she won first prize at the "Piano Talents" competition in Milan, Italy. This led to numerous concert engagements throughout Europe, including performances at the Berlin Philharmonic, the Vienna Konzerthaus, and the Royal Albert Hall in London. Angelakova's performances were praised for their technical brilliance, musical sensitivity, and emotional depth. In 2017, Angelakova released her debut album, "Chopin: The Complete Nocturnes," which received critical acclaim and was hailed as a "remarkable achievement" by Gramophone magazine. The album showcased Angelakova's virtuosic technique and her ability to convey the emotional depth and beauty of Chopin's music. Angelakova's career continued to flourish in the following years, with performances at major international festivals, including the Salzburg Festival, the Lucerne Festival, and the Verbier Festival. In 2020, Angelakova was awarded the prestigious "Prix Géza Anda" prize, which recognizes outstanding young pianists who demonstrate exceptional musical talent and promise. The prize, which includes a cash award of CHF 25,000, was awarded to Angelakova in recognition of her "extraordinary musicality, technical brilliance, and profound understanding of the music she plays."
