Born on 10th May 1958 in Sydney, Australia, Pushee grew up in a family that was passionate about music. His father was a music teacher, and his mother was a pianist. Pushee's love for music was evident from a young age, and he began singing in choirs and playing the piano at the age of six. Pushee's talent as a singer was recognized early on, and he was awarded a scholarship to study at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. He completed his Bachelor of Music degree in 1980 and went on to study at the Royal College of Music in London. It was during his time in London that Pushee discovered his love for the countertenor voice. Pushee's career as a countertenor began in the early 1980s when he joined the Australian Opera as a member of the chorus. He quickly rose through the ranks and was soon singing leading roles in productions such as Handel's "Julius Caesar" and Monteverdi's "The Coronation of Poppea." Pushee's unique voice and exceptional talent as a singer soon caught the attention of the international music community, and he was invited to perform in some of the world's most prestigious opera houses. One of Pushee's most significant achievements was his performance in the world premiere of Brett Dean's "Bliss" at the Sydney Opera House in 2010. The opera, based on Peter Carey's novel of the same name, tells the story of a man who dies and goes to heaven, only to find that it is not what he expected. Pushee's performance as the Angel was widely praised, and he received critical acclaim for his portrayal of the character. Pushee has also performed in many other notable productions, including Handel's "Rinaldo" at the Glyndebourne Festival Opera, Purcell's "The Fairy Queen" at the English National Opera, and Monteverdi's "L'incoronazione di Poppea" at the Paris Opera. He has worked with some of the world's most renowned conductors, including Sir Simon Rattle, Sir John Eliot Gardiner, and William Christie. In addition to his work in opera, Pushee is also a highly sought-after concert performer. He has performed in many of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including the Royal Albert Hall in London, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, and Carnegie Hall in New York. Pushee's repertoire includes works by composers such as Bach, Handel, Vivaldi, and Purcell. Pushee's talent as a countertenor has been recognized with numerous awards and accolades throughout his career. In 1991, he was awarded the prestigious Green Room Award for Best Male Performer in an Opera for his performance in Handel's "Julius Caesar." He has also been awarded the Helpmann Award for Best Male Performer in an Opera twice, in 2005 for his performance in "The Fairy Queen" and in 2010 for his performance in "Bliss." In addition to his work as a performer, Pushee is also a respected voice teacher. He has taught at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and the Royal College of Music in London, and he currently teaches at the Australian National University in Canberra. Pushee is passionate about passing on his knowledge and experience to the next generation of singers and is committed to helping young singers develop their talents.
