Genre:ConcertoHae-Won Chang is a renowned classical pianist who has captivated audiences around the world with her virtuosic performances and sensitive interpretations of the great works of the piano repertoire. Born in Seoul, South Korea in 1981, Chang began playing the piano at the age of four and quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. Her parents recognized her potential and enrolled her in the Yewon School, a prestigious music academy in Seoul, where she received rigorous training in piano performance and music theory. Chang's talent was evident from an early age, and she quickly rose to prominence in the Korean music scene. She won numerous competitions and awards, including the Grand Prize at the Korean Music Association Competition and the Gold Medal at the Ewha-Kyunghyang Competition. Her success in these competitions led to invitations to perform with major orchestras in Korea, including the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra and the KBS Symphony Orchestra. In 2000, Chang moved to the United States to continue her studies at the Juilliard School in New York City. There, she studied with the renowned pianist Yoheved Kaplinsky and earned her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in piano performance. During her time at Juilliard, Chang continued to win awards and accolades, including the Gina Bachauer Scholarship and the Arthur Rubinstein Prize. After completing her studies at Juilliard, Chang embarked on a career as a soloist and chamber musician, performing in major concert halls around the world. She has appeared as a soloist with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Berlin Philharmonic. She has also collaborated with some of the most distinguished musicians of our time, including violinist Itzhak Perlman and cellist Yo-Yo Ma. Chang's repertoire is vast and varied, encompassing works from the Baroque era to the present day. She is particularly known for her interpretations of the music of Chopin, Beethoven, and Schumann, and has recorded several critically acclaimed albums of their works. Her recordings have received numerous awards and nominations, including a Grammy nomination for her recording of Chopin's complete Nocturnes. In addition to her performing career, Chang is also a dedicated teacher and mentor. She has taught at the Juilliard School, the Manhattan School of Music, and the New England Conservatory, and has given masterclasses and workshops around the world. Her students have gone on to win major competitions and pursue successful careers as performers and teachers. Throughout her career, Chang has received numerous awards and honors for her contributions to the world of classical music. In 2010, she was awarded the Order of Cultural Merit by the Korean government, one of the highest honors given to artists and scholars in Korea. She has also been named a Steinway Artist, an honor reserved for the world's most distinguished pianists. Despite her many accomplishments, Chang remains humble and dedicated to her craft.
