Christian van Horn is a renowned American bass-baritone opera singer who has made a name for himself in the classical music industry. Born on August 10, 1978, in San Diego, California, Christian grew up in a family of musicians. His father was a jazz pianist, and his mother was a singer. Christian's love for music began at a young age, and he started singing in his church choir when he was just six years old. Christian's passion for music continued to grow, and he went on to study music at the University of Southern California. He later earned a Master of Music degree from the Juilliard School in New York City. During his time at Juilliard, Christian was a member of the Metropolitan Opera's Lindemann Young Artist Development Program. Christian's career as an opera singer began in 2006 when he made his debut with the Metropolitan Opera in New York City. He played the role of the Second Knight in Richard Wagner's "Parsifal." Since then, Christian has performed in numerous operas and concerts around the world. One of Christian's most notable performances was in the Metropolitan Opera's production of "Don Giovanni" in 2011. He played the role of Leporello, the servant of the title character. Christian's performance was praised by critics, who noted his powerful voice and commanding stage presence. In 2013, Christian made his debut at the Salzburg Festival in Austria, playing the role of the High Priest of Dagon in Camille Saint-Saëns' "Samson et Dalila." The performance was a huge success, and Christian received rave reviews for his portrayal of the character. Christian has also performed with other major opera companies, including the San Francisco Opera, the Lyric Opera of Chicago, and the Royal Opera House in London. He has played a variety of roles, including Figaro in Mozart's "The Marriage of Figaro," Escamillo in Bizet's "Carmen," and the title character in Verdi's "Falstaff." In addition to his opera performances, Christian has also appeared in concerts and recitals around the world. He has performed with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and the Berlin Philharmonic. Christian's talent and hard work have earned him numerous awards and accolades throughout his career. In 2010, he was awarded the Richard Tucker Career Grant, which is given to young American opera singers who show great promise. He was also a winner of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions in 2005. Christian's success as an opera singer has made him a sought-after performer and a respected member of the classical music community.
