John Robinson was born on September 29, 1954, in New York City. He grew up in a musical family, with his father being a jazz pianist and his mother a classical pianist. Robinson began playing the piano at the age of five and showed a natural talent for music. He later learned to play the violin and the cello, and by the age of 12, he was already performing in local concerts. Robinson attended the Juilliard School in New York City, where he studied under some of the most renowned classical musicians of the time. He graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree in 1976 and went on to pursue a career as a professional musician. Robinson's career took off in the early 1980s when he was invited to perform with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. He quickly gained a reputation as a talented and versatile musician, and he was soon in demand as a soloist and chamber musician. In 1985, Robinson won the prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant, which is awarded annually to outstanding young musicians. The grant provided him with financial support and helped to launch his career to new heights. Over the years, Robinson has performed with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the Boston Symphony Orchestra. He has also collaborated with some of the most renowned conductors of our time, including Leonard Bernstein, Sir Simon Rattle, and Daniel Barenboim. One of Robinson's most memorable performances was his solo debut with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra in 1987. He performed Beethoven's Violin Concerto, and his performance was met with critical acclaim. The New York Times praised his "rich, warm tone" and his "impeccable technique." Robinson has also made numerous recordings throughout his career. His recordings of the Bach Sonatas and Partitas for Solo Violin are considered to be some of the finest interpretations of these works. He has also recorded works by Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, and many other composers. In addition to his performing career, Robinson is also a dedicated teacher. He has taught at the Juilliard School, the Manhattan School of Music, and the New England Conservatory of Music. Many of his students have gone on to successful careers as professional musicians. Robinson has received numerous awards and honors throughout his career. In addition to the Avery Fisher Career Grant, he has been awarded the Naumburg International Violin Competition, the Tchaikovsky International Competition, and the Queen Elisabeth Competition. He has also been inducted into the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Despite his many accomplishments, Robinson remains humble and dedicated to his craft.
