Genre:ChamberThe Auryn Quartett is a renowned classical music ensemble that has been captivating audiences with their exceptional performances for over three decades. The quartet was founded in 1981 in Cologne, Germany, by four young musicians who shared a passion for chamber music. The founding members were Matthias Lingenfelder (violin), Jens Oppermann (violin), Stewart Eaton (viola), and Andreas Arndt (cello). The ensemble's name, Auryn, is derived from the magical talisman in Michael Ende's novel "The NeverEnding Story." The name reflects the quartet's commitment to creating music that transports listeners to another world, where they can experience the beauty and power of classical music. From the beginning, the Auryn Quartett was dedicated to exploring the rich repertoire of chamber music, from the classical period to contemporary works. The quartet's members were all accomplished musicians, having studied at some of the world's most prestigious music schools, including the Juilliard School in New York and the Hochschule für Musik in Cologne. The quartet quickly gained a reputation for their exceptional musicianship and their ability to bring out the emotional depth and complexity of the music they played. They were soon invited to perform at major music festivals and concert halls around the world, including the Salzburg Festival, the Edinburgh Festival, and the Berlin Philharmonic. Over the years, the Auryn Quartett has undergone some changes in its membership. In 1995, Matthias Lingenfelder's brother, Jens Peter Lingenfelder, joined the quartet as the second violinist. In 2002, Andreas Arndt retired from the quartet, and he was replaced by cellist Andreas von Wangenheim. Despite these changes, the Auryn Quartett has maintained its commitment to excellence and its passion for chamber music. The quartet's current members are Matthias Lingenfelder (violin), Jens Peter Lingenfelder (violin), Stewart Eaton (viola), and Andreas von Wangenheim (cello). The Auryn Quartett has received numerous awards and accolades for their performances over the years. In 1982, they won first prize at the International String Quartet Competition in Portsmouth, England. They have also been awarded the Echo Klassik Award, the Diapason d'Or, and the Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik. One of the highlights of the Auryn Quartett's career was their performance of Beethoven's complete string quartets at the Wigmore Hall in London in 2008. The quartet performed all 16 of Beethoven's string quartets over the course of eight concerts, to critical acclaim. The Auryn Quartett has also collaborated with many other musicians and ensembles over the years, including pianist Alfred Brendel, clarinetist Sabine Meyer, and the Leipzig String Quartet. They have recorded over 30 albums, featuring works by composers such as Beethoven, Mozart, Schubert, and Shostakovich. In addition to their performances and recordings, the Auryn Quartett is also committed to music education. They have conducted masterclasses and workshops for young musicians around the world, and they have served as artists-in-residence at several universities and music schools. In conclusion, the Auryn Quartett is a world-renowned classical music ensemble that has been captivating audiences with their exceptional performances for over three decades.More....
