Emily Beynon is a renowned classical flutist who has made a name for herself in the world of music. Born on 10th May 1975 in Wales, Emily grew up in a family of musicians. Her father was a professional violinist, and her mother was a pianist. Emily's parents recognized her musical talent at a young age and encouraged her to pursue a career in music. Emily began playing the flute at the age of eight and quickly showed a natural aptitude for the instrument. She went on to study at the Royal College of Music in London, where she was awarded the prestigious Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Scholarship. During her time at the Royal College of Music, Emily studied under the tutelage of renowned flutists such as William Bennett and Kate Hill. After completing her studies, Emily began her professional career as a flutist. She quickly gained recognition for her exceptional talent and was invited to perform with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and the BBC Symphony Orchestra. One of Emily's most significant achievements was being appointed as the principal flutist of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam in 1995. This was a highly prestigious position, and Emily was the first female musician to hold this role in the orchestra's history. During her time with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Emily performed in some of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including Carnegie Hall in New York and the Royal Albert Hall in London. Emily has also been a soloist with many orchestras around the world, including the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. She has performed under the baton of some of the world's most renowned conductors, including Sir Simon Rattle, Valery Gergiev, and Mariss Jansons. In addition to her orchestral work, Emily is also a highly sought-after chamber musician. She has performed with some of the world's leading chamber ensembles, including the Nash Ensemble and the London Sinfonietta. Emily is also a founding member of the ensemble Ensemble Lumaka, which has gained critical acclaim for its innovative programming and exceptional musicianship. Emily's talent as a flutist has been recognized with numerous awards and accolades. In 2002, she was awarded the prestigious Dutch Music Prize, which is the highest honor that can be bestowed upon a musician in the Netherlands. She has also been awarded the Royal Philharmonic Society's Instrumentalist Award and the Borletti-Buitoni Trust Award. Emily is also a highly respected teacher and has held teaching positions at some of the world's leading music institutions, including the Royal College of Music in London and the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. She is currently a professor of flute at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff. In addition to her teaching work, Emily is also committed to promoting the flute as an instrument and encouraging young people to take up the flute. She has been involved in numerous educational projects and has given masterclasses and workshops around the world. Emily is also a keen advocate for contemporary music and has premiered many new works for the flute. She has worked closely with composers such as Kaija Saariaho, Mark-Anthony Turnage, and Brett Dean, and has given the world premieres of many of their works.
