Orli Shaham is a renowned classical music artist who has made a name for herself as a pianist, chamber musician, and educator. Born in Jerusalem, Israel in 1975, Shaham grew up in a family of musicians. Her father, Jacob Shaham, was a violinist and her mother, Meira Shaham, was a pianist. Her older brother, Gil Shaham, is also a world-renowned violinist. Shaham began playing the piano at the age of four and showed exceptional talent from an early age. She studied with several renowned teachers, including Nancy Stessin and Peter Serkin. In 1990, at the age of 15, Shaham made her debut with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, playing Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 21 in C major. Shaham's career took off in the 1990s, when she won several prestigious awards and performed with major orchestras around the world. In 1993, she won the Gilmore Young Artist Award, which is given every two years to a young pianist who shows exceptional promise. The award came with a cash prize of $15,000 and a series of concerts in the United States. In 1994, Shaham made her debut with the New York Philharmonic, playing Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 20 in D minor. She received rave reviews for her performance, with critics praising her technical skill and musicality. She went on to perform with many other major orchestras, including the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Shaham is also a dedicated chamber musician and has performed with many of the world's leading chamber ensembles. She has been a member of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center since 1997 and has performed with the group at major venues around the world. She has also collaborated with her brother, Gil Shaham, on several recordings and performances. In addition to her performing career, Shaham is also a respected educator. She is currently on the faculty of the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. Shaham has recorded extensively throughout her career, with over 25 albums to her name. Her recordings have received critical acclaim and have won several awards, including a Grammy nomination for her recording of John Adams' "Century Rolls" with the Cleveland Orchestra. One of Shaham's most notable achievements is her work as the artistic director of the Pacific Symphony's chamber music series in Orange County, California. She has been the artistic director since 2007 and has helped to build the series into one of the most respected chamber music programs in the country. Shaham is also known for her advocacy of new music. She has premiered several works by contemporary composers, including John Adams, Steven Mackey, and David Robertson. She has also commissioned new works from several composers, including Avner Dorman and Bruce Adolphe. Throughout her career, Shaham has been recognized for her exceptional talent and dedication to music. In addition to the Gilmore Young Artist Award, she has received several other awards and honors, including the Avery Fisher Career Grant, the Andrew Wolf Chamber Music Award, and the Borletti-Buitoni Trust Award.
