He was the son of a famous Bulgarian composer, Dimitar Kostov, who was also a professor at the National Academy of Music in Sofia. Todor Kostov grew up in a musical family and started playing the piano at a very young age. He showed great talent and passion for music, which led him to pursue a career in classical music. Kostov's musical education began at the National Academy of Music in Sofia, where he studied piano under the guidance of Professor Konstantin Ganev. He graduated with honors in 1962 and continued his studies at the Moscow Conservatory, where he studied under the renowned pianist and teacher, Yakov Flier. Kostov's time in Moscow was a turning point in his career, as he was exposed to a new level of musical excellence and was able to refine his skills as a pianist. After completing his studies in Moscow, Kostov returned to Bulgaria and began his career as a concert pianist. He quickly gained recognition for his exceptional talent and became a sought-after performer in Bulgaria and abroad.
