Role:EnsembleGenre:ChoralEnsemble Turicum is a classical music ensemble based in Zurich, Switzerland. The ensemble was founded in 2008 by a group of young musicians who shared a passion for chamber music and a desire to explore the rich repertoire of classical music. The founding members of Ensemble Turicum were violinist Sebastian Bohren, cellist Maja Weber, and pianist Benjamin Engeli. All three musicians had already established themselves as soloists and chamber musicians in their own right, but they were drawn together by a shared vision of creating a dynamic and innovative chamber music ensemble. From the outset, Ensemble Turicum set out to explore the full range of the chamber music repertoire, from the Baroque era to the present day. The ensemble's repertoire includes works by such composers as Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Brahms, Debussy, and Shostakovich, as well as contemporary composers such as György Kurtág and Thomas Adès. One of the hallmarks of Ensemble Turicum's performances is their commitment to bringing fresh and innovative interpretations to familiar works. The ensemble's members are all highly skilled musicians with a deep understanding of the music they perform, and they are constantly exploring new ways to bring out the nuances and subtleties of the music. Over the years, Ensemble Turicum has performed at some of the most prestigious concert halls and festivals in Europe and beyond. The ensemble has been invited to perform at the Lucerne Festival, the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, the Rheingau Music Festival, and the Menuhin Festival Gstaad, among others. Ensemble Turicum has also collaborated with some of the world's leading musicians, including violinist Renaud Capuçon, cellist Gautier Capuçon, and pianist Lars Vogt. These collaborations have resulted in some truly memorable performances, showcasing the ensemble's versatility and musicality. In addition to their live performances, Ensemble Turicum has also released several critically acclaimed recordings. Their debut album, featuring works by Schubert and Brahms, was released in 2011 to widespread acclaim. The ensemble's subsequent recordings, including a disc of works by Debussy and Ravel and a disc of works by Shostakovich, have also been highly praised by critics and audiences alike. Ensemble Turicum has received numerous awards and accolades over the years. In 2010, the ensemble was awarded the Swiss Ambassador's Award for Culture in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the Swiss cultural scene. The ensemble has also been awarded the Prix Credit Suisse Jeunes Solistes, a prestigious award that recognizes outstanding young musicians. Despite their many achievements, the members of Ensemble Turicum remain committed to their original vision of creating a dynamic and innovative chamber music ensemble. They continue to explore new repertoire, collaborate with other musicians, and push the boundaries of what is possible in chamber music performance. With their passion, skill, and dedication, Ensemble Turicum is sure to remain a leading force in the world of classical music for many years to come.More....
