The Roger Wagner Chorale was a classical music ensemble that was founded in 1946 by Roger Wagner, a renowned American choral conductor and composer. Roger Wagner was born in 1914 in LePanto, Arkansas, and he grew up in California. He studied music at the University of Southern California, where he earned a Bachelor of Music degree in 1936 and a Master of Music degree in 1937. After completing his studies, Wagner worked as a choral conductor and composer, and he quickly gained a reputation as a talented and innovative musician. In 1946, Wagner founded the Roger Wagner Chorale, which was initially made up of 16 singers. The ensemble quickly gained a following, and it soon grew to include more than 40 singers. The Roger Wagner Chorale was known for its exceptional performances of choral music from a wide range of composers, including Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, and Brahms. One of the highlights of the Roger Wagner Chorale's early career was its performance at the Hollywood Bowl in 1947. The Roger Wagner Chorale went on to win several more Grammy Awards over the years, including awards for its recordings of Bach's Mass in B Minor and Handel's Messiah. One of the Roger Wagner Chorale's most memorable performances was its appearance in the 1963 film It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World. The ensemble performed a rendition of the song "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" in the film, and the performance was widely praised for its energy and enthusiasm. In addition to its performances of classical choral music, the Roger Wagner Chorale was also known for its performances of folk music from around the world. The ensemble recorded several albums of folk music, including a collection of Christmas carols from around the world.
