Nicholas Madden is a renowned classical music artist who has made a significant impact in the world of music. Born in 1985 in New York City, Madden showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of five. His parents recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue his passion for music. Madden's musical education began at the Juilliard School's Pre-College Division, where he studied piano with Yoheved Kaplinsky. He later attended the Manhattan School of Music, where he earned a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance. During his time at the Manhattan School of Music, Madden studied with renowned pianist and pedagogue Solomon Mikowsky. After completing his undergraduate studies, Madden continued his education at the Yale School of Music, where he earned a Master of Music degree in Piano Performance. While at Yale, he studied with Boris Berman, one of the most respected piano teachers in the world. Madden's talent as a pianist quickly became evident, and he began to receive recognition for his performances. In 2007, he won the Yale School of Music's Woolsey Hall Concerto Competition, which led to a performance of Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2 with the Yale Philharmonia. The following year, he won the Manhattan School of Music's Eisenberg-Fried Concerto Competition, which led to a performance of Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 4 with the Manhattan School of Music Symphony Orchestra. Madden's career as a concert pianist took off after he won the 2010 Hilton Head International Piano Competition. The competition, which is one of the most prestigious piano competitions in the world, attracts top pianists from around the globe. Madden's performance of Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 3 in the final round of the competition was hailed as "a tour de force" by the judges, and he was awarded the first prize. Since winning the Hilton Head International Piano Competition, Madden has performed as a soloist with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Berlin Philharmonic. He has also given recitals in major concert halls around the world, including Carnegie Hall, the Royal Albert Hall, and the Berlin Philharmonie. Madden's repertoire is vast and includes works by many of the great composers, including Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, Liszt, Rachmaninoff, and Schumann. He is particularly known for his interpretations of the works of Rachmaninoff, and his recording of Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 3 with the London Symphony Orchestra was widely praised by critics. In addition to his career as a performer, Madden is also a dedicated teacher. He has taught at the Manhattan School of Music and the Yale School of Music, and he currently serves on the faculty of the Juilliard School's Pre-College Division. He is known for his ability to inspire and motivate his students, and many of them have gone on to successful careers as musicians. Madden has received numerous awards and honors throughout his career. In addition to his wins at the Yale School of Music and the Manhattan School of Music, he has been awarded the Arthur Rubinstein Prize, the Gina Bachauer Piano Scholarship, and the Avery Fisher Career Grant.
