Alí Arango is a renowned classical guitarist and composer from Cuba. He was born on December 22, 1974, in Havana, Cuba. Arango grew up in a family of musicians, and his father was a guitarist and composer. He started playing the guitar at the age of six and was soon recognized as a prodigy. Arango received his formal music education at the National School of Art in Havana, where he studied under the guidance of renowned guitarists such as Leo Brouwer and Joaquín Clerch. He also studied composition with Harold Gramatges and Roberto Valera. In 1993, Arango won the first prize at the National Guitar Competition in Havana, which marked the beginning of his career as a professional musician. He went on to win several other competitions, including the International Guitar Competition in Havana in 1995 and the Andrés Segovia International Guitar Competition in Spain in 1996. Arango's talent as a guitarist and composer soon caught the attention of the international music community, and he was invited to perform at major music festivals and concert halls around the world. In 1997, he made his debut at the Carnegie Hall in New York City, where he received a standing ovation for his performance. Arango has performed with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the New York Philharmonic. He has also collaborated with renowned musicians such as Yo-Yo Ma, Joshua Bell, and Itzhak Perlman. Arango's repertoire includes a wide range of music, from classical to contemporary, and he has recorded several albums, including "Cuban Guitar Music," "Alí Arango Plays Leo Brouwer," and "Alí Arango Plays Manuel Ponce." In addition to his career as a performer, Arango is also a respected composer. He has written several pieces for the guitar, as well as chamber music and orchestral works. His compositions have been performed by leading musicians and ensembles around the world. Arango has received numerous awards and honors for his contributions to the world of classical music. In 2001, he was awarded the National Prize for Music in Cuba, the highest honor given to a musician in the country.
