Artist Info
Le Concert de la Loge is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2015 in Paris, France. The ensemble is named after the famous Masonic lodge, La Loge Olympique, which was located in the heart of Paris during the 18th century. The lodge was known for its support of the arts, and many of the greatest composers of the time, including Mozart and Haydn, performed there. The founding members of Le Concert de la Loge were Julien Chauvin, a violinist and conductor, and his colleagues from the Paris-based orchestra, Les Siècles. The ensemble was created with the aim of exploring the music of the 18th and early 19th centuries, and of performing on period instruments in historically informed style. The ensemble's main members are Julien Chauvin, who serves as the artistic director and conductor, and a group of around 20 musicians who perform on period instruments. The ensemble's repertoire includes works by composers such as Mozart, Haydn, Beethoven, and Schubert, as well as lesser-known composers from the same period. One of the highlights of Le Concert de la Loge's early performances was a concert at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris in 2016, which featured a program of Mozart's music. The concert was well-received by both audiences and critics, and helped to establish the ensemble's reputation as one of the leading interpreters of classical music in France. Since then, Le Concert de la Loge has performed at some of the most prestigious concert halls and festivals in Europe, including the Salzburg Festival, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, and the Wigmore Hall in London. The ensemble has also collaborated with some of the world's leading soloists, including pianist Kristian Bezuidenhout and cellist Jean-Guihen Queyras. In addition to its live performances, Le Concert de la Loge has also released several critically acclaimed recordings. These include a recording of Mozart's Violin Concertos, which was released in 2017 and received a Diapason d'Or award, and a recording of Beethoven's Symphony No. 1 and Piano Concerto No. 1, which was released in 2019 and received a Choc de Classica award. One of the unique aspects of Le Concert de la Loge's performances is its use of period instruments. The ensemble's musicians perform on instruments that are similar to those that would have been used during the time when the music was composed. This allows the ensemble to recreate the sound and style of the music as it would have been heard by audiences at the time. Le Concert de la Loge's performances are also characterized by their attention to historical context and performance practice. The ensemble's musicians work closely with musicologists and historians to ensure that their performances are as historically accurate as possible. This includes using historical tuning systems, tempos, and articulations, as well as performing with a smaller ensemble size than is typically used in modern orchestras. Overall, Le Concert de la Loge has quickly established itself as one of the leading ensembles in the world of classical music. Its commitment to historical accuracy and period instruments has earned it a reputation for excellence, and its performances and recordings have been widely praised by audiences and critics alike. With its continued dedication to exploring the music of the past, Le Concert de la Loge is sure to remain a major force in the world of classical music for years to come.More....
