He began taking piano lessons with his mother and later studied under several renowned pianists in Vienna. At the age of 16, Paul won first prize in a national piano competition, which marked the beginning of his professional career. In 1968, Paul was accepted into the Vienna Conservatory, where he studied under the tutelage of Professor Franz Schmidt. He graduated with honors in 1972 and went on to pursue a master's degree in piano performance at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. Throughout his career, Paul performed extensively throughout Europe, Asia, and the United States. He was known for his virtuosic technique and his ability to bring out the emotional depth of the music he played. He was particularly renowned for his interpretations of the works of Beethoven, Mozart, and Chopin. One of the highlights of Paul's career was his performance at the Salzburg Festival in 1985. He was invited to perform Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5 with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, under the baton of Herbert von Karajan. The performance was a resounding success, and Paul received a standing ovation from the audience. In 1990, Paul was awarded the prestigious International Beethoven Prize for his contributions to the interpretation of Beethoven's music. The award recognized his exceptional talent and his dedication to the art of piano performance. Throughout his career, Paul recorded numerous albums, including solo works and collaborations with other musicians.
