William Powers was born on May 15, 1985, in New York City. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his mother being a pianist and his father a cellist. From a young age, Powers showed a natural talent for music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Powers received his formal music education at the Juilliard School in New York City, where he studied under the renowned pianist and teacher, Yoheved Kaplinsky. During his time at Juilliard, Powers won numerous awards and competitions, including the prestigious Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition in 2006. After graduating from Juilliard, Powers began his professional career as a concert pianist, performing in major concert halls around the world. He quickly gained a reputation as one of the most talented and dynamic pianists of his generation, known for his virtuosic technique and passionate interpretations of classical music. One of Powers' most memorable performances was his debut at Carnegie Hall in 2008, where he performed a program of works by Beethoven, Chopin, and Liszt to critical acclaim. The New York Times praised Powers' "dazzling technique and emotional depth," calling him "a pianist of the highest order." In addition to his solo performances, Powers has also collaborated with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the London Symphony Orchestra. He has also recorded works by Chopin, Liszt, and Rachmaninoff, among others. Throughout his career, Powers has received numerous awards and honors for his contributions to classical music. In 2010, he was awarded the Avery Fisher Career Grant, which recognizes outstanding young musicians who show great potential for a major career in music. He was also named a Steinway Artist in 2012, joining a select group of pianists who are recognized for their exceptional talent and dedication to the instrument. Despite his many accomplishments, Powers remains humble and dedicated to his craft.
