Loomis received his formal music education at the Juilliard School in New York City, where he studied under the renowned pianist and teacher, Yoheved Kaplinsky. He also studied with other notable pianists, including Emanuel Ax and Murray Perahia. During his time at Juilliard, Loomis won several awards and competitions, including the Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition and the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. These victories helped to launch his career as a concert pianist. Loomis made his debut with the New York Philharmonic in 2007, performing Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5. The performance was met with critical acclaim, and Loomis was praised for his technical skill and musicality. Over the years, Loomis has performed with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. He has also collaborated with some of the most celebrated conductors of our time, such as Daniel Barenboim, Simon Rattle, and Riccardo Muti. One of Loomis's most memorable performances was his rendition of Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 3 with the Boston Symphony Orchestra in 2012. The performance was hailed as a triumph, with critics praising Loomis's ability to capture the emotional depth and complexity of the piece. In addition to his work as a soloist, Loomis is also an accomplished chamber musician. Loomis has recorded extensively throughout his career, with his recordings receiving critical acclaim and numerous awards. In addition to his performing and recording career, Loomis is also a dedicated teacher. He has taught at the Juilliard School, the Curtis Institute of Music, and the Royal Academy of Music in London. Many of his students have gone on to successful careers as concert pianists and teachers themselves. Throughout his career, Loomis has received numerous awards and honors for his contributions to classical music. In 2010, he was awarded the Avery Fisher Career Grant, which recognizes outstanding young musicians who show great potential for a major career in music. He was also named a MacArthur Fellow in 2016, which is one of the most prestigious awards in the arts and sciences. Despite his many accomplishments, Loomis remains humble and dedicated to his craft.
