Katherine McGillivray is a renowned classical music artist who has made a significant impact in the world of music. Born in 1985 in Toronto, Canada, Katherine showed an early interest in music and began playing the violin at the age of four. Her parents, both musicians, recognized her talent and encouraged her to pursue a career in music. Katherine's early years were spent studying under the tutelage of some of the best violin teachers in Canada. She attended the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, where she received her Bachelor of Music degree. She then went on to study at the Juilliard School in New York, where she earned her Master of Music degree. Throughout her career, Katherine has performed with some of the most prestigious orchestras in the world. She has been a member of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra since 2008 and has also performed with the New York Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the London Symphony Orchestra. Her performances have taken her to some of the most famous concert halls in the world, including Carnegie Hall, the Royal Albert Hall, and the Berlin Philharmonic. One of Katherine's most notable performances was her solo debut with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra in 2010. She performed the Violin Concerto in D Major by Tchaikovsky, which received critical acclaim. The Toronto Star praised her performance, saying, "McGillivray's playing was technically flawless, but it was her emotional depth that truly set her apart." Katherine has also been the recipient of numerous awards and honors throughout her career. In 2006, she won the Grand Prize at the Canadian Music Competition, which helped launch her career. She has also been a recipient of the Sylva Gelber Music Foundation Award, which is given to outstanding Canadian musicians under the age of 30. In addition to her work as a performer, Katherine is also a dedicated teacher. She has taught at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto and has given masterclasses at universities and music schools around the world.
