The Zilina Chamber Orchestra is a classical music ensemble based in Zilina, Slovakia. The orchestra was founded in 1969 by a group of young musicians who were passionate about chamber music and wanted to create a platform for themselves to perform and showcase their talents. The founding members of the orchestra were Jozef Podhoransky, Jozef Luptak, and Peter Michalica. They were soon joined by other talented musicians, including violinist Jan Slavik, cellist Jan Krigovsky, and violist Milan Telecky. Together, they formed the core of the Zilina Chamber Orchestra and began rehearsing and performing regularly. Over the years, the orchestra has undergone several changes in its membership, but it has always maintained its commitment to excellence and its passion for chamber music. Today, the Zilina Chamber Orchestra is made up of some of the most talented musicians in Slovakia, including violinists Peter Michalica and Jan Slavik, cellist Jan Krigovsky, and violist Milan Telecky. The Zilina Chamber Orchestra has performed extensively throughout Slovakia and Europe, and has gained a reputation for its high-quality performances and innovative programming. The orchestra has collaborated with many renowned soloists and conductors, including violinist Vadim Gluzman, cellist Mischa Maisky, and conductor Andrew Parrott. One of the highlights of the Zilina Chamber Orchestra's career was its performance at the 1994 Prague Spring Festival, where it received critical acclaim for its interpretation of works by Mozart, Haydn, and Beethoven. The orchestra has also performed at the Bratislava Music Festival, the Festival de Musique de Menton in France, and the Festival Internacional de Música de Canarias in Spain. In addition to its performances, the Zilina Chamber Orchestra has also received numerous awards and accolades for its contributions to the world of classical music. In 1993, the orchestra was awarded the prestigious Prize of the Slovak Music Fund for its outstanding achievements in the field of music. The following year, it was awarded the Prize of the Ministry of Culture of the Slovak Republic for its contribution to the development of Slovak music. The Zilina Chamber Orchestra has also recorded extensively, with over 20 albums to its name. Its recordings have been praised for their technical excellence and musical sensitivity, and have won several awards, including the Grand Prix du Disque de l'Académie Charles Cros in France. Despite its many achievements, the Zilina Chamber Orchestra remains committed to its mission of promoting chamber music and nurturing young talent. The orchestra regularly collaborates with young musicians and composers, and has established a chamber music competition for young musicians in Slovakia.
