The Ruse Philharmonic Orchestra is a classical music ensemble based in the city of Ruse, Bulgaria. The orchestra was founded in 1949 and has since become one of the most prominent orchestras in the country. The founding of the Ruse Philharmonic Orchestra was a result of the post-World War II cultural policies of the Bulgarian government. The government aimed to promote classical music and establish orchestras in major cities across the country. One of the highlights of the Ruse Philharmonic Orchestra's history was its performance at the 1981 Prague Spring International Music Festival. In 2009, the orchestra was awarded the Golden Lyre, the highest honor given by the Union of Bulgarian Musicians and Dancers. In addition to its regular concert series in Ruse, the orchestra has toured extensively throughout Bulgaria and Europe.
