Artist Info

Instrumenta Musica is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 1998 in Mexico City. The group is known for its innovative and dynamic performances of classical music, and has become one of the most respected ensembles in Mexico and beyond. The founding members of Instrumenta Musica were a group of young musicians who were passionate about classical music and wanted to create a new kind of ensemble that would bring together the best of traditional and contemporary music. The group was led by the violinist Daniel Andai, who had studied at the National Conservatory of Music in Mexico City and had performed with some of the most prestigious orchestras in the country. From the beginning, Instrumenta Musica was committed to exploring new ways of interpreting classical music, and to bringing the music of contemporary composers to a wider audience. The group's repertoire includes works by composers such as Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, and Brahms, as well as contemporary composers like Arvo Pärt, John Adams, and Steve Reich. One of the highlights of Instrumenta Musica's early career was their performance at the Festival Internacional Cervantino in 2000. This festival is one of the most important cultural events in Mexico, and attracts artists and audiences from around the world. Instrumenta Musica's performance was widely praised for its energy, precision, and creativity, and helped to establish the group as one of the most exciting new ensembles in the country. Over the years, Instrumenta Musica has continued to perform at major festivals and concert halls around the world, including the Edinburgh International Festival, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the Lincoln Center in New York. The group has also collaborated with some of the most renowned musicians and conductors of our time, including Yo-Yo Ma, Gustavo Dudamel, and Simon Rattle. In addition to their performances, Instrumenta Musica has also been recognized for their recordings. The group's album of Bach's Brandenburg Concertos was nominated for a Latin Grammy Award in 2005, and their recording of Arvo Pärt's Tabula Rasa was named one of the best classical albums of the year by The New York Times in 2010. Instrumenta Musica's current members include Daniel Andai on violin, Luis Peña on viola, Carlos Prieto on cello, and Ana Cervantes on piano. Each member of the group is a highly accomplished musician in their own right, and together they create a sound that is both powerful and nuanced. One of the hallmarks of Instrumenta Musica's performances is their ability to bring a fresh perspective to even the most familiar works of classical music. For example, in their performance of Beethoven's Symphony No. 5, the group used period instruments and historical performance practices to create a sound that was closer to what Beethoven would have heard in his own time. This approach allowed the audience to hear the piece in a new way, and to appreciate the nuances and subtleties of the music in a deeper way. Instrumenta Musica's commitment to innovation and excellence has earned them numerous awards and accolades over the years. In addition to their Latin Grammy nomination and their recognition by The New York Times, the group has also been awarded the National Arts and Sciences Prize in Mexico, and has been named a UNESCO Artist for Peace.
