Concerto Soave is a classical music ensemble that specializes in early music, particularly from the Baroque era. The ensemble was founded in 1991 by Jean-Marc Aymes, a French harpsichordist and conductor. Aymes had previously studied at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Switzerland, where he developed a deep appreciation for early music and historical performance practices. From the beginning, Concerto Soave was dedicated to exploring the rich and varied repertoire of early music, with a particular focus on the music of Italy and France. The ensemble's name, which means "sweet concerto," reflects its commitment to creating beautiful and harmonious music that is both historically informed and emotionally engaging. Over the years, Concerto Soave has attracted a talented and diverse group of musicians, including singers, instrumentalists, and dancers. Some of the ensemble's most notable members have included sopranos Maria Cristina Kiehr and Claire Lefilliâtre, tenor Gerd Türk, and violinist Chiara Banchini. One of the highlights of Concerto Soave's early career was its performance of Monteverdi's "L'Orfeo" at the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence in 1994. This production, which was directed by Jean-Pierre Vincent and featured a cast of talented singers and dancers, was widely praised for its innovative staging and musical excellence. In the years that followed, Concerto Soave continued to build its reputation as one of the leading early music ensembles in Europe. The ensemble performed at major festivals and concert halls throughout the continent, including the Festival de Saintes, the Festival de La Chaise-Dieu, and the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris. One of the ensemble's most acclaimed recordings is its 2001 album "L'Arpeggiata," which features music by the Italian composer Tarquinio Merula. This recording, which was released on the Harmonia Mundi label, received widespread critical acclaim and helped to cement Concerto Soave's reputation as a leading interpreter of early music. In addition to its performances and recordings, Concerto Soave has also been recognized with numerous awards and honors. In 1999, the ensemble was awarded the prestigious Diapason d'Or for its recording of Monteverdi's "Selva morale e spirituale." This award, which is given by the French music magazine Diapason, is widely regarded as one of the most prestigious honors in the classical music world. Today, Concerto Soave continues to perform and record music from the Baroque era and beyond. The ensemble's commitment to historical performance practices and its dedication to creating beautiful and emotionally engaging music have made it one of the most respected and beloved early music ensembles in the world.
