Tempest Trio is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2009. The trio consists of pianist Alon Goldstein, violinist Ilya Kaler, and cellist Amit Peled. The ensemble has gained international recognition for their dynamic and passionate performances of classical music. Alon Goldstein is an Israeli pianist who has performed with major orchestras around the world. He has won numerous awards, including the prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant. Ilya Kaler is a Russian-born violinist who has won gold medals at three of the world's most prestigious violin competitions: the Tchaikovsky Competition, the Sibelius Competition, and the Paganini Competition. Amit Peled is an Israeli cellist who has performed as a soloist with major orchestras around the world. He is also a professor of cello at the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University. The trio's name, Tempest, was inspired by Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 17 in D minor, which is also known as the "Tempest" Sonata. The trio's repertoire includes works by Beethoven, Brahms, Mendelssohn, and other classical composers. One of the highlights of Tempest Trio's career was their performance at the 2010 Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center's annual "Great Performers" series. The trio performed works by Beethoven, Brahms, and Mendelssohn to critical acclaim. The New York Times praised the trio's "exquisite playing" and "impressive ensemble work." In 2012, Tempest Trio released their debut album, "Trios by Mendelssohn and Dvorak," which was praised by critics for its "passionate and virtuosic" performances. Tempest Trio has also performed at major music festivals around the world, including the Ravinia Festival, the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival, and the Seattle Chamber Music Society Summer Festival. The trio has collaborated with other renowned musicians, including violinist Joshua Bell and cellist Zuill Bailey. In addition to their performances, Tempest Trio is committed to music education.
