Robert McCormick is a renowned classical music artist who has made a significant contribution to the world of music. Born on August 22, 1963, in Chicago, Illinois, McCormick grew up in a family that valued music. His parents were both music teachers, and they encouraged him to pursue his passion for music from a young age. McCormick began his musical journey by learning to play the piano at the age of five. He quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument and began taking lessons from his mother. By the time he was a teenager, McCormick had already developed a deep love for classical music and had started to explore other instruments, including the organ. In 1981, McCormick enrolled at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York, where he studied organ performance under the guidance of David Craighead. During his time at Eastman, McCormick honed his skills as a musician and began to establish himself as a rising star in the classical music world. After graduating from Eastman in 1985, McCormick went on to earn a Master of Music degree from the Yale School of Music in 1987. He then continued his studies at the University of Michigan, where he earned a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in 1991. Throughout his career, McCormick has performed at some of the world's most prestigious venues, including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and the Royal Festival Hall in London. He has also collaborated with some of the most renowned conductors and orchestras in the world, including the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic, and the London Symphony Orchestra. One of McCormick's most notable performances was his solo recital at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C., in 1993. The recital was a tribute to the late American composer Samuel Barber, and McCormick's performance was widely praised for its technical brilliance and emotional depth. In addition to his performances, McCormick has also received numerous awards and accolades throughout his career. In 1992, he was awarded the prestigious Prix de Rome from the American Academy in Rome, which allowed him to spend a year studying and performing in Italy. He has also been a recipient of the Fulbright Scholarship and the National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship. McCormick is also a respected educator and has taught at several universities throughout his career. He currently serves as the Chair of the Organ Department at the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University, where he has been a faculty member since 1995. Throughout his career, McCormick has remained committed to promoting classical music and inspiring the next generation of musicians. He has recorded several albums, including a critically acclaimed recording of the complete organ works of Samuel Barber, and has also published numerous articles and essays on music. In recognition of his contributions to the world of music, McCormick was awarded the Distinguished Alumni Award from the Eastman School of Music in 2013. He continues to perform, teach, and inspire audiences around the world with his passion for classical music.
