Andrew Mahon is a Canadian classical pianist and professor of music at Western University in London, Ontario. Born in 1979 in Toronto, Mahon began playing the piano at the age of four and quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. He went on to study at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, where he earned his ARCT diploma in piano performance with distinction. Mahon continued his studies at the University of Western Ontario, where he earned a Bachelor of Music degree in piano performance. He then went on to earn a Master of Music degree from the University of Toronto, where he studied with renowned pianist Anton Kuerti. Mahon also studied with other notable pianists, including Menahem Pressler, John Perry, and Leon Fleisher. Mahon has performed extensively throughout Canada and the United States, as well as in Europe and Asia. He has appeared as a soloist with numerous orchestras, including the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, the National Arts Centre Orchestra, the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony, and the Windsor Symphony Orchestra. He has also performed in major concert halls such as Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and the Royal Festival Hall in London. In addition to his solo performances, Mahon is also an accomplished chamber musician. He has collaborated with many renowned musicians, including violinist James Ehnes, cellist Shauna Rolston, and clarinetist James Campbell. Mahon is a founding member of the Amici Chamber Ensemble, which has been praised for its innovative programming and virtuosic performances. Mahon has won numerous awards and competitions throughout his career. In 2000, he was the winner of the Eckhardt-Gramatté National Music Competition, which is one of Canada's most prestigious music competitions. He has also been a finalist in the Montreal International Piano Competition and the Honens International Piano Competition. In addition to his performing career, Mahon is also a dedicated teacher. He has taught at the University of Western Ontario, the University of Toronto, and the Glenn Gould School. He is currently a professor of music at Western University, where he teaches piano and chamber music. Mahon is also committed to promoting new music and has premiered many works by Canadian composers. He has recorded several CDs, including a critically acclaimed recording of the complete piano works of Canadian composer Jean Coulthard. Overall, Andrew Mahon is a highly respected and accomplished pianist who has made significant contributions to the world of classical music. His virtuosic performances, innovative programming, and dedication to teaching and promoting new music have earned him a well-deserved reputation as one of Canada's leading musicians.
