Tonkunstkoor Amsterdam is a classical music choir that was founded in 1892 in Amsterdam, Netherlands. The choir has a rich history of over a century of performances and has become one of the most renowned choirs in the country. The choir was founded by a group of music enthusiasts who wanted to create a platform for the performance of classical music in Amsterdam. The choir started with a small group of singers, but over the years, it has grown to become a large choir with over 100 members. In 1992, the choir celebrated its 100th anniversary with a special concert at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. The concert was attended by members of the Dutch royal family and was broadcast on national television. In 2002, Tonkunstkoor Amsterdam won the prestigious Dutch Choir Competition, which is held every four years. The choir competed against several other choirs from across the country and was awarded first place for its performance of a piece by Dutch composer Hendrik Andriessen. Tonkunstkoor Amsterdam has also collaborated with several renowned conductors and soloists over the years. In 2010, the choir performed with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra under the direction of conductor Mariss Jansons. The performance was a tribute to Dutch composer Louis Andriessen and was broadcast on national television. In addition to its performances, Tonkunstkoor Amsterdam is also committed to promoting classical music education. The choir regularly hosts workshops and masterclasses for young singers and conducts outreach programs in local schools.
