Born on 22nd September 1972 in Rotterdam, Netherlands, Zweistra showed an early interest in music and began playing the cello at the age of six. She received her first lessons from her father, who was a cellist himself, and later studied with renowned cellists such as Dmitri Ferschtman, Anner Bylsma, and William Pleeth. Zweistra's talent and dedication to music were evident from an early age, and she quickly gained recognition for her exceptional skills. At the age of 14, she won the first prize in the National Cello Competition in the Netherlands, which marked the beginning of her successful career as a cellist.
