Born on August 29, 1966, in Banff, Alberta, Shauna grew up in a family of musicians. Her father, Thomas Rolston, was a violinist and founder of the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, while her mother, Lorraine, was a pianist. Shauna's siblings, Gwen and Andrew, are also accomplished musicians. Shauna began playing the cello at the age of four, and by the time she was eight, she was already performing in public. She studied with renowned cellists such as Janos Starker, William Pleeth, and Jacqueline du Pré. Shauna's talent and dedication to her craft were evident from a young age, and she quickly gained recognition as a rising star in the classical music world. In 1984, Shauna won the prestigious Young Concert Artists International Auditions in New York City, which launched her career as a soloist. She has since performed with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, and the Montreal Symphony Orchestra.
