From a young age, Coker showed a keen interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of five. His parents recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue his passion for music. Coker's musical journey began when he joined the Royal Academy of Music in London at the age of 18. He studied under the guidance of renowned pianist and teacher, Dame Myra Hess. Coker's talent and dedication to music were evident from the beginning, and he quickly became one of the academy's most promising students. After completing his studies at the Royal Academy of Music, Coker began his professional career as a concert pianist. He made his debut performance at the Royal Festival Hall in London in 1972, where he received critical acclaim for his performance of Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 14 in C-sharp minor, Op. 27, No. 2, also known as the "Moonlight Sonata." Coker's career took off after his debut performance, and he went on to perform at some of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including Carnegie Hall in New York, the Royal Albert Hall in London, and the Berlin Philharmonic. He was known for his exceptional technique, musicality, and ability to connect with his audience. One of Coker's most significant achievements was his performance of Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2 in C minor, Op. 18, with the London Symphony Orchestra in 1985.
