Novus Quartet is a classical music ensemble that has gained international recognition for its exceptional performances and innovative approach to chamber music. The quartet was founded in 2007 by four young musicians who shared a passion for classical music and a desire to explore new ways of interpreting and presenting it to audiences around the world. The founding members of Novus Quartet are violinists Yun Kyung Lee and Joo Yeon Sir, violist Young Uck Kim, and cellist Woongwhee Moon. All four musicians had already established themselves as accomplished soloists and chamber musicians before coming together to form the quartet. They were all graduates of prestigious music schools in Korea and had won numerous awards and competitions both nationally and internationally. From the beginning, Novus Quartet set out to challenge traditional notions of chamber music and to explore new ways of interpreting classical repertoire. They were particularly interested in exploring the connections between classical music and other art forms, such as literature, visual art, and dance. They also sought to engage with audiences in new and innovative ways, using technology and multimedia to enhance their performances and create immersive experiences for their listeners. One of the highlights of Novus Quartet's early career was their performance at the 2009 Seoul Spring Festival of Chamber Music. The quartet's performance of Beethoven's String Quartet No. 14 in C-sharp minor, Op. 131 was widely praised for its technical precision, emotional depth, and innovative interpretation. The performance marked the quartet's debut on the international stage and helped to establish their reputation as one of the most exciting and innovative young ensembles in the world. In the years that followed, Novus Quartet continued to build their reputation through a series of high-profile performances and collaborations with other musicians and artists. They performed at major music festivals around the world, including the Edinburgh International Festival, the Salzburg Festival, and the Hong Kong Arts Festival. They also collaborated with a wide range of artists from other disciplines, including dancers, visual artists, and writers. One of the most notable collaborations in Novus Quartet's career was their work with the Korean novelist Han Kang. In 2016, the quartet collaborated with Kang on a multimedia performance of her novel The Vegetarian. The performance combined readings from the novel with live music and visual projections, creating a powerful and immersive experience for the audience. The performance was widely praised for its innovative approach to storytelling and its seamless integration of different art forms. Novus Quartet has also been recognized for their exceptional musicianship and technical skill. They have won numerous awards and competitions, including the 2012 International Chamber Music Competition in Osaka, Japan, and the 2013 Bordeaux International String Quartet Competition in France. They have also been awarded the prestigious Borromeo String Quartet Guest Artist Award and the Chamber Music America/ASCAP Award for Adventurous Programming. Despite their many achievements, Novus Quartet remains committed to exploring new frontiers in classical music and pushing the boundaries of what is possible in chamber music. They continue to collaborate with artists from other disciplines and to experiment with new forms of performance and presentation.More....
