Maury began his musical education at the Conservatoire de Paris, where he studied under the guidance of renowned musicians such as Pierre Fournier and Maurice Gendron. After completing his studies, Maury began his professional career as a cellist. He joined the Orchestre de Paris, where he played for several years before moving on to other orchestras. Maury's career as a soloist took off in the 1970s, and he quickly established himself as one of the leading cellists of his generation.
