She was the daughter of a music teacher and grew up in a musical family. Her father was a choir director and her mother was a pianist. Adele Stolte showed an early interest in music and began singing in her father's choir at the age of six. Stolte studied at the Leipzig Conservatory and later at the Hochschule für Musik in Berlin. She made her professional debut in 1955 at the Berlin State Opera as the Queen of the Night in Mozart's "The Magic Flute." Her performance was well-received, and she quickly became a rising star in the opera world. Stolte's career took off in the 1960s when she began performing with the Berlin State Opera and the Deutsche Oper Berlin. She was known for her powerful voice and her ability to convey emotion through her singing. She was particularly renowned for her performances of Mozart's operas, including "The Magic Flute," "Don Giovanni," and "The Marriage of Figaro." In addition to her work in opera, Stolte was also a prolific concert singer. She performed with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Vienna Philharmonic, and the London Symphony Orchestra. She was particularly known for her performances of Bach's cantatas and oratorios. Stolte's career was marked by many highlights and achievements. In 1962, she was awarded the National Prize of East Germany for her contributions to music. She was also awarded the Order of Merit of Berlin in 1972. In 1976, she was awarded the title of Kammersängerin, the highest honor for a singer in Germany. One of Stolte's most memorable performances was her portrayal of the Queen of the Night in Ingmar Bergman's film version of "The Magic Flute" in 1975. Her performance was widely praised, and the film was a critical and commercial success. Stolte continued to perform well into her later years. She retired from the stage in 1996 but continued to teach and mentor young singers.
