Born on December 1, 1954, in Valence, France, Becquet showed an early interest in music and began playing the trombone at the age of 10. He was inspired by his father, who was a trumpet player, and his uncle, who was a trombonist. Becquet's talent was quickly recognized, and he began studying at the Conservatoire National de Région de Grenoble at the age of 13. He continued his studies at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, where he was a student of Michel Becquet and Alain Trudel. Becquet's dedication and hard work paid off, and he graduated with honors in 1976. After completing his studies, Becquet began his professional career as a trombonist.
