Artist Info
Role:ConductorBirth:1988Simon-Pierre Bestion is a French classical music artist who has made a name for himself as a conductor, composer, and organist. Born in 1984 in the city of Nantes, Bestion showed an early interest in music and began playing the organ at the age of 10. He went on to study music at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris, where he earned degrees in organ, composition, and conducting. Bestion's career as a musician began to take off in the early 2010s, when he founded the ensemble La Tempête. The group, which specializes in early music and Baroque repertoire, quickly gained a reputation for its innovative and dynamic performances. Bestion served as the ensemble's conductor and artistic director, and also contributed his own compositions to its repertoire. One of the highlights of Bestion's career with La Tempête came in 2014, when the group performed at the prestigious Festival d'Aix-en-Provence. The performance, which featured a program of works by Monteverdi, was widely praised by critics and helped to establish La Tempête as one of the leading early music ensembles in France. In addition to his work with La Tempête, Bestion has also collaborated with a number of other ensembles and orchestras. He has conducted the Orchestre National de Lorraine, the Orchestre de Chambre de Paris, and the Ensemble Pygmalion, among others. He has also worked as a guest conductor with the Opéra de Rouen and the Opéra de Dijon. Bestion's talents as a composer have also been recognized in recent years. In 2016, he was awarded the Prix de la Fondation Simone et Cino Del Duca, which recognizes outstanding achievement in the arts and humanities. Bestion's compositions, which often draw on early music and Baroque influences, have been performed by a number of ensembles and orchestras, including the Orchestre National de Lorraine and the Ensemble Pygmalion. One of Bestion's most notable compositions is his opera Orfeo, which premiered in 2018 at the Opéra de Rouen. The opera, which is based on the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, features a libretto by the French writer and philosopher Michel Onfray. The production, which was directed by Bestion himself, received critical acclaim for its innovative staging and powerful performances. In addition to his work as a conductor and composer, Bestion is also an accomplished organist. He has performed on some of the most famous organs in France, including the organs at Notre-Dame de Paris and the Basilique Saint-Sernin in Toulouse. He has also recorded several albums of organ music, including a recording of works by the French Baroque composer Nicolas de Grigny. Throughout his career, Bestion has been praised for his innovative and dynamic approach to classical music. He is known for his ability to bring new life to early music and Baroque repertoire, and for his skill as a conductor and composer. With his talent and dedication, Simon-Pierre Bestion has established himself as one of the most exciting and innovative classical music artists of his generation.More....
