Jean Louis Steuerman is a renowned classical pianist who has captivated audiences around the world with his virtuosic performances and sensitive interpretations of the great works of the piano repertoire. Born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 1949, Steuerman began his musical studies at a young age, showing a natural talent and passion for the piano. Steuerman's early training was under the guidance of his mother, who was a pianist herself. He later studied with renowned teachers such as Jacques Klein and Magda Tagliaferro, both of whom recognized his exceptional talent and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. Steuerman's career as a concert pianist began in the 1970s, when he won several prestigious international competitions, including the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in 1970 and the Leeds International Piano Competition in 1972. These victories launched his career and established him as one of the leading pianists of his generation. Throughout his career, Steuerman has performed with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the New York Philharmonic, and the London Symphony Orchestra. He has also collaborated with some of the most celebrated conductors of our time, including Claudio Abbado, Daniel Barenboim, and Zubin Mehta. He is particularly known for his interpretations of the music of Johann Sebastian Bach, which he has recorded extensively and performed in concert halls around the world. In addition to his career as a performer, Steuerman is also a respected teacher and mentor to young musicians. He has taught at several prestigious institutions, including the Juilliard School in New York and the Hochschule für Musik in Berlin. Steuerman's many accomplishments have been recognized with numerous awards and honors. In 1998, he was awarded the Order of Rio Branco by the Brazilian government for his contributions to the arts. He has also been awarded the Medalha da Inconfidência by the state of Minas Gerais in Brazil and the Medalha da Ordem do Mérito Cultural by the Brazilian Ministry of Culture.
