New Light Symphony Orchestra is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2015 in New York City. The orchestra is known for its innovative programming, which combines classical music with other genres such as jazz, world music, and electronic music. The ensemble is made up of some of the most talented young musicians in the city, many of whom have studied at prestigious music schools such as Juilliard and Manhattan School of Music. The idea for the orchestra came from its founder and artistic director, David Bloom. In 2017, the orchestra performed at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts as part of the Mostly Mozart Festival. The program included works by Mozart, Beethoven, and Haydn, as well as a new composition by Bloom. The concert was well-received by both audiences and critics, and helped to establish the orchestra as one of the leading ensembles in the city. Another notable performance by the orchestra was its collaboration with the jazz pianist Vijay Iyer. The two groups performed together at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 2018, combining classical music with jazz improvisation to create a dynamic and exciting performance. In addition to its performances, the orchestra has also received numerous awards and accolades. In 2016, the ensemble was awarded a grant from the New York State Council on the Arts, which helped to fund its performances and outreach programs.
