Artist Info
Orchestre De Chambre De Lausanne (OCL) is a Swiss classical music ensemble that was founded in 1942 by Victor Desarzens, a Swiss conductor and composer. The ensemble has since become one of the most renowned chamber orchestras in Europe, known for its exceptional performances and recordings of classical and contemporary music. The OCL was initially formed as a small group of musicians who played together in Lausanne, Switzerland. However, it quickly grew in size and reputation, attracting some of the most talented musicians from around the world. Today, the ensemble consists of around 40 musicians, including some of the most accomplished soloists and chamber musicians in Europe. One of the defining characteristics of the OCL is its commitment to performing a wide range of classical and contemporary music. The ensemble has a particular focus on the works of Swiss composers, including Frank Martin, Arthur Honegger, and Ernest Bloch. However, it also performs works by composers from around the world, including Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, and Stravinsky. Over the years, the OCL has performed in some of the most prestigious concert halls in Europe and around the world. The ensemble has also collaborated with some of the most renowned conductors and soloists in the classical music world, including Martha Argerich, Joshua Bell, and Yo-Yo Ma. One of the highlights of the OCL's history was its performance at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. The ensemble was invited to perform at the opening ceremony, where it played a specially commissioned piece by Swiss composer Frank Martin. The performance was widely praised for its beauty and elegance, and it helped to cement the OCL's reputation as one of the world's leading chamber orchestras. Another notable moment in the OCL's history was its performance at the 2014 Montreux Jazz Festival. The ensemble collaborated with jazz pianist Chick Corea, performing a selection of his works arranged for chamber orchestra. The performance was a huge success, and it demonstrated the OCL's versatility and willingness to experiment with different musical styles. In addition to its performances, the OCL has also received numerous awards and accolades over the years. In 2010, the ensemble was awarded the Swiss Grand Prix for Music, one of the country's highest honors for musicians. The award recognized the OCL's contributions to the Swiss music scene and its commitment to promoting Swiss composers and musicians. Overall, the Orchestre De Chambre De Lausanne is a world-class classical music ensemble that has earned a reputation for its exceptional performances and recordings. With its commitment to performing a wide range of classical and contemporary music, the ensemble has become a beloved institution in the Swiss music scene and beyond.More....
