He was a violinist, conductor, and music educator who made significant contributions to the world of classical music. Rodan was born into a musical family, and his father was a violinist who played in the Palestine Symphony Orchestra. His father was his first teacher, and he began playing the violin at the age of six. Rodan's talent was evident from a young age, and he quickly became a prodigy. He gave his first public performance at the age of nine and was soon recognized as one of the most promising young musicians in Palestine. He continued his studies at the Jerusalem Conservatory of Music, where he studied with the renowned violinist and pedagogue, Paul Ben-Haim. In 1936, Rodan traveled to Europe to further his studies. He studied with some of the most prominent violinists of the time, including Carl Flesch, Jacques Thibaud, and George Enescu. He also studied conducting with Felix Weingartner and Hermann Scherchen. Rodan's time in Europe was cut short by the outbreak of World War II, and he returned to Palestine in 1939. Upon his return, Rodan became the concertmaster of the Palestine Symphony Orchestra, which was later renamed the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. He held this position for 25 years and was a key figure in the development of the orchestra. He also served as the orchestra's assistant conductor and conducted many of its concerts. Rodan's career as a soloist was also impressive. He performed with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Vienna Philharmonic, and the New York Philharmonic. He was particularly renowned for his interpretations of the works of Bach, Mozart, and Beethoven. In addition to his performing career, Rodan was also a dedicated music educator. He taught at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance and was a mentor to many young musicians. He was also a frequent guest lecturer at universities and music schools around the world.
